So I understand the first spike... but why the second? What happened between January and April of 2003 that would cause such a spike? And what about the little 2004 bump?
I really like that he started out just above 50. It's like the only thing that was "good" for Bush was 9/11... After the transients from that die out, it's clear he's just a really bad guy.
The first bump is during the invation of Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom begins March 19th, 2003), and the second bump probably correlates with the capture of Saddam Hussein (captured December 13th, 2003).
There's also a beautiful map floating around the blog-o-sphere showing the current Blue County vs. Red County divide. The Red Counties are now basically a thin belt in the middle.

OK, that's good to see. BUT WTF, how were his approval ratings once in the 80-90 percent range!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!! (Once upon a time in 2001).
